Yusuf Widyatmoko and Zainuri’s Independent Candidacy Rejected by Banyuwangi Election Commission
Banyuwangi – Today, on May 12, 2024, former Vice Regent of Banyuwangi, Yusuf Widyatmoko, along with his running mate Zainuri, attempted to register as independent candidates for the positions of regent and deputy regent of Banyuwangi. However, their bid was met with a setback as the Banyuwangi Election Commission (KPU) rejected their registration due to missing required documents.
Yusuf and Zainuri, accompanied by their supporters, arrived at the Banyuwangi KPU office to submit their candidacy. They brought along two pickup trucks filled with documents. However, it was revealed that the physical documents they brought, including support forms for their candidacy as independent candidates, did not meet the criteria set by the KPU for registration.
Ari Mustofa, a Commissioner of the KPU Technical Division, clarified that Yusuf-Zainuri’s team failed to bring the necessary documents for registration as independent candidates. These documents include the B-Support and Support Recapitulation forms, which are obtained after inputting support data through the Silon application.
“The concerned party did not bring the required documents. Therefore, we cannot issue a receipt of acceptance or rejection,” stated Ari.
Yusuf-Zainuri’s team admitted to not bringing the required documents, citing difficulties in inputting support data into the Silon application. They explained that the application requires the input of supporters’ email addresses and phone numbers, posing a challenge for them.
Yusuf mentioned, “There’s a problem with that. Inputting data there is not feasible because support data must be accompanied by an email. Without an email, it cannot be entered.”
Facing this challenge, Yusuf and his team intended to register with only physical support forms. However, their attempt was in vain as the deadline for registration as independent candidates approached.
Yusuf claimed to have garnered support from 87,210 residents of Banyuwangi, meeting the required threshold. Despite this, their registration was rejected by the KPU.
In response to the rejection, Yusuf-Zainuri’s team lodged a complaint with the KPU, hoping for reconsideration based on the documents they provided.
The Banyuwangi KPU has set the deadline for independent candidacy registration until 23:59 WIB. Unless Yusuf-Zainuri’s team submits the required documents before the deadline, they will not be eligible to run for the positions of regent and deputy regent of Banyuwangi.
“There have been no changes in the registration requirements from the central KPU until now,” affirmed Ari.
As the clock ticks towards the deadline, the fate of Yusuf-Zainuri’s candidacy hangs in the balance, awaiting a decision from the Banyuwangi KPU.
